About

Welcome! I’m Andrew Roos Bell, an editor with a rich and varied background both studying and teaching writing. My home is the American Pacific Northwest, and my passion is stories. My career has revolved around the English language, and I have taught writing both at a private school and at a large university. The best part of this work was always helping writers develop their material and hone their craft, always with empathy and care.

I understand that anything worth doing involves sacrifice. In college I gave up my career focus on politics & law to pursue literature, and in while working on my MA in Medieval Studies (of al things!) I decided to give up my academic career so I could wander the earth. Writing, as you have done, also involves a great sacrifice of time, and seeking an editor is an act of humility and trust, since you are asking someone else to sacrifice your words and phrases. I can’t promise to win you a writing prize, but I can promise that I will always respect your sacrifice.

My experience editing includes time spent as a co-founder of a startup manuscript editing service, and it has continued through years of marking up drafts & guiding writing students in their revision process. As a tutor and EAL teacher, I learned to not only grasp intuitively the mechanics of grammar and syntax, but also to understand and explain them. But as someone who reads voraciously and has two literature degrees, I also understand when to break those rules in the service of art.
